First Poem!

For conservation
Turn down the heat
It's inflation
We have to beat
Close all the windows
And the doors
And to keep warm
Do your chores
Now it's all
Up to you
It will save money
And energy too!

I know - not the typical writing you have been seeing from me here. However, this one has some significance. Back in 1974 or 1975 when I was seven or eight years old, this was the first poem I wrote. This is the one that gave me the first sense of fun in playing with words and I have been hooked ever since. For many years my poetry had rhyming couplets before diverging off into the style that I usually incorporate today, though the rhyming does crop up from time to time for periods. I am trying to locate my old writing journals, and I know there are a number of different styles scrawled into them. Hopefully I find them soon as I would like to revisit the rhyming period. Or maybe, just maybe, things will start flashing bak into my head as this one did last night - recalled after decades of being lost.
